- LASKER RINK
Entrance at 110th St. and Malcolm X Blvd. (Lenox)
This is where the tourney takes place. You can find a MAP of the rink and the area around the rink, including a satellite photo, HERE from a few years back when Christo put up all those crazy "gates." The rink is slightly more narrow and shorter than a regulation rink. The rink is uncovered, outdoors, and artificially refrigerated. There are indoor, heated changing rooms. There are tiny lockers (big enough for shoes and clothes, but not gear) which are free, but require your own lock (otherwise, you bring your stuff to the bench, outside). There is a snack bar and vending machines, or you can get what you need at the deli at 110th St. and Malcolm X Blvd. at the entrance to the park. If you're driving to the rink, there is usually plenty of parking along 110th Street. It's safe to keep your car on the street - just don't leave anything inside. If you are taking the subway, take the 2-3 train to the 110th/Central Park North station.
- VAN DIEMENS
We will gather here for drinks after Saturday’s round robin play with other members of the Canadian Association. Van Diemens is located on at 383 3rd Ave which is between 27th and 28th streets. A taxi from Lasker rink should be no more than $20. The quickest way to get there by subway from Lasker would be to walk to the 110th St Station on the 6 line (at Lexington and 110th). Then, take the 6 train southbound to the 28th Street stop. Van Diemens is then a short 2 block walk east on 3rd Ave.
- PARKSIDE LOUNGE
Located at 317 E. Houston (at Attorney), the Parkside hosts our post-game party on Saturday night (Feb. 17, 2006) from 5pm to 8pm. In addition to a swell set of taps (Brooklyn Lager, PBR, et al) and a full bar, they have foosball, a pool table and a wicked jukebox! If you're taking the subway from the rink to the party, take the 2 or 3 train DOWNTOWN to 14th Street, transfer to the F-train (downtown/Brooklyn), get off at the 2ND AVENUE station, and walk about 9 short blocks EAST to Attorney St. A cab will cost about $22-$25 with tip (tell the driver "corner of Houston and Attorney, please!"). If you're driving, take the FDR south to Houston St., go right on Houston for about 1/2 a mile. The club is on your LEFT at Attorney St. (If you pass Essex/Ave. A, you've gone about 6 blocks too far!)
- WEST SIDE STICK AND SKATE
23rd Street and 6th Ave., next to the Apple Computer store. The best place to get your skates sharpened in NYC (unless you know the Rangers equipment manager). $15. Plan on spending 20 minutes with the boys as they grind your skates with the care and precision of a heart surgeon. 174 Fifth Avenue, Suite 504 (5th Floor) New York, NY 10010-5974 (westside, between 22nd & 23rd Streets). Business Hours: Monday thru Friday 11AM to 8PM, Saturday & Sunday 12PM to 6PM Phone: (212) 228-8400.
- WONDERLAND ON ICE
The pro-shop inside the premier NYC hockey rink - Chelsea Piers, on the Hudson river at 23rd Street. Tel. 212.824.4096 718-680-5111. Sharpening? Eh... so-so. They have gear at o.k. prices.
- SKYRINK/CHELSEA PIERS
Sure, there's Aviator out in Brooklyn, the Icehaus in Hackensack and that joint in White Plains, but SKYRINK/CHELSEA PIERS is where New Yorkers play ice hockey... (when it's too warm to play in Central Park). This is where we'll play if it rains, snows, is 20-below or if asteroids descend on Lasker rink on Feb. 17. Also, this is where the Montreal Ninja Tune Wicked Deadly Karate Chops play every July 4th weekend. It's THAT famous!
- PARAGON SPORTS
867 Broadway by 18th Street. Good spot for general hockey gear (downstairs, in the back).
- THE POND AT BRYANT PARK
Though it closed early this year because of Fashion Week, next year you can experience FREE SKATING IN NYC!!! That's right! Free! Skate rental is about $8 (so bring your own!), lockers are free if you have your own lock (or if you don't need to lock your shoes up) and if you want to drink coffee, water, etc., get it outside! They gouge! Open all week long from 8:30am till 10pm. Sometimes they have special events (ie. you can't get in) so check the schedule or call them.
